Is SMP® Scalp Micropigmentation a hair tattoo?
Yes and No. SMP® or Scalp Micropigmentation is often referred to as Hair Tattoo. However, SMP® is nothing like a regular tattoo. SMP® requires the technician to apply the specialized technique using a multitude of different needle sizes, penetration depths, angles, pigment colours and distribution rates depending on the specific area of the scalp being treated at the time, the skin tone of the individual and the desired final appearance.
The needles do not penetrate as deeply as with a standard tattoo and our specialized and tested pigments, not tattoo inks that change colour over time. We use computer controlled microfine needles in triple clusters to achieve the guaranteed consistency of results that SMP® scalp micropigmentation demands.

Advantages of SMP
SMP is an effective alternative for people who want a treatment for hair loss that does not involve surgery. Alternatively, this treatment can work wonders when paired with hair transplants as the application of natural pigments masks scars and adds to the thickness and natural look of the transplanted hair.
Some of the advantages of SMP include:
It is a non-invasive technique
- Requires little to no maintenance
- No recovery time
- Stimulates natural-looking thickness in existing hair
- It is affordable and costs a fragment of what hair transplants cost
- Effects are long-lasting
- Relatively less time-consuming overall
- Effective in creating the illusion of normal hair growth
Looks natural and can boost confidence for years!
Is Scalp Micropigmentation Painful?
During the treatment process, we apply a numbing agent to the scalp. Clients may experience some discomfort during the procedure but this is dependent on individual pain tolerance levels. Since it is a non-invasive procedure and does not penetrate deep into the skin, the process is usually pain-free.
